Introducing 3D Word Merge: A Hackathon-Inspired Gift to the 3D Printing Community

At Formlabs, we believe innovation often comes from passion and creativity—and our recent company hackathon proved just that. Over the course of just a few days, one of our software engineers took an imaginative idea and turned it into a powerful, free tool for the 3D printing community. Today, we’re thrilled to introduce 3D Word Merge: a web-based app that brings your words to life in a whole new way.

What Is 3D Word Merge?

3D Word Merge is a fun, intuitive platform designed for anyone who loves 3D printing. It allows users to enter two words of the same length (e.g., “CAT” and “DOG”), and in just moments, it generates a 3D-printable STL file. The resulting design is nothing short of magical: when viewed from one direction, it displays the first word, and when rotated, the second word is revealed. The STL includes a sturdy base, making it perfect for desktop displays, gifts, or custom creations.

How It Works

Using 3D Word Merge is simple:

  1. Visit the tool: It’s completely free and requires no installation.

  2. Enter your words: Type in two words with the same number of letters.

  3. Download the STL: The tool instantly generates your custom design.

  4. Print and enjoy: Use your favorite resin or filament to bring your creation to life.

In just minutes, you’ll have a unique, personalized piece ready to print.

Join the Fun

We’re launching 3D Word Merge as a free resource because we believe in the power of sharing and collaboration. We’d love to see what you create! Share your designs on social media with the hashtag #WordMergePrints, and don’t forget to tag us. From playful phrases to artistic displays, we’re excited to showcase your ingenuity.

A Special Thanks

A huge shoutout goes to the talented engineer behind this project, whose dedication and creativity made it possible.
